The stars shine bright at All Star Weekend

Los Angeles, also known as the city of stars, and on Friday night the stars shined bright for the NBA Celebrity All-Star game. Team Lakers which consisted of celebrities such as Nick Cannon, Micheal B Jordan, and Justin Bieber took on team Clippers which consisted of Jamie Foxx, Common, and Quavo. Team Clippers were victorious as they won 75-66 with Quavo being named MVP, in which fans took to twitter asking if he should be playing in the NBA?

Saturday night brought around the 3pt contest and dunk contest. Houston’s own Eric Gordon was defending his 3pt title from last year, but it was Phoenix’s Devin Booker who stunned everyone watching by putting up a historic 28 points in the championship round to defeat Tobias Harris of the Clippers.

Next came the high flyers of the dunk contest. Contestants for the dunk contest included, Sensational rookie’s Donovan Mitchell and Dennis Smith Jr, along with Victor Oladipo who is arguably the most improved player this year, and Larry Nance Jr whos dad Larry Nance Sr won the inaugural dunk contest in 1984. Both Mitchell and Nance paid respects to their elders with Nance wearing his dad’s jersey and Mitchell wearing Vince Carter’s jersey, but Mitchell came out victorious with a strong first dunk in which Nance did not have.

 

Sunday night is when the big stars showed up and put out. The new format NBA All-Star game featured team Lebron going against team Steph. Team Lebron came away with a dub in a tight and entertaining contest with the final score being 148-145. Lebron James was named MVP for the 3rd time in his career. All in all the new format mixed with the competitions from the nights before turned out to be a huge success. Here’s to more entertaining and outstanding All-Star weekends to come.

A Night With Chris Monroe

Settled on the outskirts of Houston’s greater fifth ward, between the streets of Hardy and McKee. Lies the Houston Underground, a live music venue that has seen its fair share of great performances, but on Saturday night. Cali’s own Baby Bash was taking the stage. Before Bash took the stage. Houston’s own Chris Monroe was stealing the show.

Monroe a local area swiss army knife of the music industry as he produces, writes, sings, and DJ’s. On this particular night, he was showcasing his DJ’ing skills by mixing EDM with trap style beats, but all this isn’t new for Monroe. As he performs all around the Houston area all week, and you’re promised a stellar performance every time he steps on to the stage.
