“What a time to be alive” after witnessing an amazing fight in Houston at The Arena Theater, October 4th. The Darwin Price Vs. Breidis Prescott fight was presented by Lions Only Promotions and PBC. Anticipation boils as the city awaits the big night for Darwin Price, Marquis Taylor, and Quinton Randall. Victory spreads across the venue as each of these boxers bring home “The Win”.
Our Editor Nyte Lyfe Lexx experiences a new atmosphere where many eat, breath, and live boxing. Friday Night Fight in Houston was a night to remember.
Our ending adventure was with “Mr Marvelous” Marquis Taylor (11-1-1) He was definitely in beast mode, especially after the hostility during the weigh-in the day before. At the weigh in, opponent Jeremy Nichols chants out “Night Night” and laughs aloud as if this will be an easy win for him. But little did he know. This had to be one of the most interesting fights of the night, which was validated by the crowd. His opening had all eyes on him, as he bought out Super Producer DJ Chose to “Everywhere I Go”.
His opponent Jeremy Nichols seemed for sure this will be a win for him. As round after round goes, the opponent showed his inability to keep up. Marquis Taylor kept striving to rise up and shortens his punches. The crowd goes crazy, watching every jab thrown. The fight had everyone at the edge of their seats.
From Marquis Fight, it is showed that this is a sport of dedication and the ability to learn your opponents. Mr. Marvelous took the win for his city. He fights hard for his titles and continues to training until this very day! We want to congratulate his team, Southern Heat Entertainment, family and friends for the victory!
This was a great opportunity to see Houston’s’ boxers at their best at The Charlo Boxing and Fitness Gym Saturday. The fight is presented by Lions Only and PBS. Everyone was welcomed to come out and see these guys in rare form. We had the pleasure to meet Darwin Price Jr. , Quinton Randall, and Marquis Taylor. We were able to see each boxer get taped up as we ask them questions about preparation for the fight. We also learned about their styles of fighting and confidence they possess.
Get ready to see this trio at The Friday Night Fight at The Arena Theater is upcoming Friday October 4th, at 7pm. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.com
The Houston Nyte Lyfe this Friday Night was an experience! Skybox HTown premiers a live concert from Artist Afro B. He has the crowd rocking as he perform his hit “Johanna”. Summer is now approaching an end and the children are getting prepared for this school year. What makes this so unique was to see the community gather such a delightful school drive to prepare children and parents. This may have been a hot sunny day but it did not stop everyone from working together to create an impactful event.
Councilman Jerry Davis, Bread of Life, Impacting Houston, and East Houston Civic Club joined forces to have the back to school supply giveaway at A.G. Hilliard Elementary in North East Houston. Stepping unto the schools’ grounds, you could not help to view many children enjoying the fun, food and games at hand. They were given school supplies, hair cuts and hair do’s, and also everyday necessities for families. Councilman Jerry Davis gives tickets to WWE match and there were also cash raffles with East Houston Civic Club. From bounce machines to the break dancing challenges, the children got a chance to end summer with a bang!
We had the chance to speak with several community organizations and businesses as the provide information of their products and services:
Fredy Gomez with Harris County Texas, Shambriah Busby with Healing Hearts, and Desiree Barnes with United Health Care. Drive HISD was also in attendance, sharing their mission with school transportation.
With invites, we got the chance to see Miss Cynthia Bailey who is currently running for District B work hard with Impacting Houston Inc. Cynthia’s work ethnics and experiences in the community gives a huge impact to the neighborhoods. She strives to create a better quality of life for all residents in District B. As the backpacks and supplies were given to families, one of the main occurrences was to watch the teamwork from everyone.
There were over 1000 backpacks given to the children this weekend. This shined the facility even more with smiles from kids preparing to get back to school. We would like to thank Jerry Davis, Principal Erika Kimble with A.G. Hilliard Elementary, Bread of Life, Impacting Houston, and The East Houston Civic Club for sharing moments given to the future of the next generations.
If you are in Houston as an upcoming artist within hip-hop, well you should have heard about ARedd’s Showcase he’s been having lately. We were invited to The “We Workin” Showcase, Sunday May 26th. It was held at The Engine Room for Memorial Weekend. This becomes his second show which grew substantially. With DJ Calo on the 1s and 2s, he joined forces with DJ Nick The Quick on stage.
We caught up with one of Houston’s best Music Engineers at his show where he displays a great deal of artists. He allowed them to have the chance to perform with fans and others to connect. They were also able to network with each other and vibe off all the dope music played.
What is cool is that Aredd has a recording studio on the southwest side of Houston, TX. We are sure he had thoughts on how can he implement all of the talents he work with, giving them a chance on a stage. With his “We Working” Showcase, it gives you a moment to see who’s really putting in work with their music!
Artists had the chance to open up for Lil Splurge (@ssglilsplurge). Even though his set was shortened, the audience was stoked to have him hype them up. There were special guests artists such as EnzoMcFly, $tiffbarbie, Suave Louis, and Lil Brent. All artists came with their own vibes. Dedoe also came and invited the crowd on stage featuring Lil Jairmy. This became one of the highlights of the show as well. What a way to get crowd anticipation!
After watching each set, there were a good amount of artists who took over the stage. Then, there were a few artists that need more practice on taking over the stage. Overall, the experience was what mattered the most. That’s why we were eager to assist with allowing artists to know what’s real the deal.
Here is a few artists that we checked out as they performed and rocked out:
After attending many showcases in Houston in particular, you always get artists perform, with no feedback or ways to enhance their craft. No follow ups, no announcement of who’s in the venue, media, press, videographers, photographers, etc. No actual networking field artists can grow accustomed to. So, some artists do not know how to approach others, especially if they really do not know. Just do your best and move around the room. Be sure to communicate with all around you. Keep positive energy and release it throughout the room by good feedback, a follow on social media, or ask questions! It’s that easy! Don’t leave a venue without connecting with at least five others. In due time it will help you.
We encourage aspiring artists to research and find ways to grasps your fans and audience. Put in more groundworks. Receive constructive criticism for its best. Be thankful and grateful during these memories and moments. Most important enjoy yourself! We hope to see Who’s Workin at the next show!
Bud Light is the official beer for SXSW. They had their Offical Launch Party at The 3Ten ACL Live. There were limited tickets to the public, which allowed some to enjoy great music and tasteful beer. The event presented the new packaging and design of the beer. Giving the beer a local and original look.
There was a live and intense performance by Rock band Goodbye June. We were gifted with a dope performance and get a chance to meet a few of the band members!
We enjoyed joining with Bossyinc as we had a night out on the town and explored Austin. We also met female producer and DJ Jaehussain. We will update you with these great women and their work this year for SXSW.
Be sure to check out Bud Lights new look for SXSW!
If you never experienced The Vockfest4 from New Orleans Bounce Legend, Vockah Redu, then you have to see what we seen this year in Houston. Vockah Redu Presents his spectacular festival where he conjoined artists, each with an unique voice. Vockah explains how these are artists who he personally enjoys. He wanted the world to experience the same as he did. Vockah Redu has been an underdog in New Orleans Bounce and its originality. He shared his talents across the world. He allowed fans to encounter the real Bounce. His performance is electrifying, making everyone shake. He includes his dope dancers with his futuristic sense in style. You will get a funky feel with that B.E.A.T bursting through the speakers in the venues.
With sounds by Jay Dawg, one of the coldest producers from the city. He kept the crowd on Go every time he was in the mix. Jay Dawg has worked some of the best in the music game in New Orleans. We all know his tracks when we hear his name on them. We advise you do not sleep on this man machine on the beats. He works his way into becoming already legendary, be sure to keep up with him!
Each talent was unique in their own sound. They all had a different style that kept you wanting more.
Eclipse The Earth Star
The Vockfest4 had a great show including American Idol’s Vincent Powell. The crowd reactions from his performance was in amaze. The audience described his performance as “breathtaking”, “strong”, “beautiful”, and “special”.
What way to go out with a bang by having Sissy Nobby give his fans the best of him. With his energy and ability to make the world shake, Nobby was definitely the highlight of the night. His opening for Vockah Redu was so legendary, most would not understand. The significance of New Orleans Bounce was created by both Redu and Nobby. It showed at an all time high at the incredible Vockfest4.
Overall, The Vockfest4 gave us an experience we suggest everyone should want to encounter. “Vockah Redu and The Cru” shared to the crowd a booty shaking, might get you naked shakedown this night. We commend his dancers for teaching a thing or two about how you really, really shake.
New Orleans was granted a special gift after the holidays with Swisha Sweet’s massive show. Swisher Sweets presents The Artist Project where they created a show to highlight both mainstream and independent artists. The concert took place at The Orpheum Theater downtown of New Orleans. Every year, The Artist Project travels to different cities across the nation.
The NOLA Takeover gave seven emerging artists a chance to shine, opening for some of our biggest hip hop artists today. The artists consists of Snap Dogg, Kelechi, Iman, Charles Bryan, J Soulja, Don Doliver, and Rizzoo Rizzoo. These 7 artists were chosen and voted in by fans. They received the chance to open up for MGK, Desiigner, Gucci Mane, and Fetti Wap.
Upon arrival, guests were greeted with a special welcome from Swisher Sweets. The venue was filled with a great amount of fans, supporters, and special guests. The cheerful crowd anticipates all talents.
With New Orleans legendary, DJ Mannie Fresh and Comedian Rude Jude, they kept the crowd rolling. They kept us hyped and full of energy.
What we noticed was that the lineup for the show became diverse. We would normally see all opening acts perform before the headliners. Well, Swisher shuffled the stars with aspiring artists. Giving everyone a chance to be equally heard throughout the show. This made the show more exciting.
Every artist gave a good show, we received a special show from Fetti Wap. He served his fans up and down the stage. He seemed to have enjoyed the show as much as the audience did. Wap dances and sang without a doubt in his mind. We got the chance to see him live performing all of his hit songs.
Next, we seen the best performance of the show By Machine Gun Kelly. MGK show seemed to be one of the most anticipated from the crowds reaction. He bounced from one end of stage to another, even climbing on top of balcony. Touching everyone from upstairs on down, we loved that part of show.
The last performance was worth waiting for as LaFlare (Gucci Mane) comes unto the stage glowing the venue up! Atlanta’s own comes to New Orleans and sang his fans favorite songs. Gucci is no stranger to the Big Easy, you can tell he felt as f he was at home. He performed hits such as “Lemonade”, “Freaky Girl”, “Wake Up In The Sky”, “Black Beatles”, and more.
Overall, concert was a great experience. We become intimate with the artists, which joined the fans together. One thing that we did noticed was some of the crowd participation become tough for some of the opening acts. The support from the audience lingered throughout the show. Besides that, we give the show both thumbs up! We would like to thank Swisher Sweets for allowing us to attend their show. Can’t wait to see what’s next for the New Year!
